WAEC to be 100 per cent technology driven in 2018, says head national office

The council’s Head, National Office (HNO), Mr Olu Adenipekun disclosed this in an interview on Saturday in Lagos. According to him, the council has organised series of retreats for both management staff and the workforce in preparatory to deploy technology in its operations. “We have worked hard in sensitising the workforce of the council and prepare their minds because it is one thing for one to strive to do something “But if the people who drives the system are not attuned psychologically, to doing that all such efforts will be fruitless. “So, we want to prepare our psyche on the need to sharpen our tools in preparation to move over to a 100 per cent technologically driven WAEC and of course we have done that and we are going full blast,’’ he said. The HNO noted that already, the council’s budget for 2018 had been fully designed to support the introduction of technology into the various aspects of its operation in Nigeria. WAEC blasts schools over ‘fake’ scores

Registrar of West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Dr Iyi Uwadiae, has condemned some secondary schools nationwide of inflating Continuous Assessment Scores (CAS) of their students. Uwadiae spoke in Lagos at the two-day international summit on examination malpractice with the theme “Examination malpractice: The contemporary realities and antidotes”. He lamented that schools manufacture continuous assessment scores for students and send to council as part of their grades for May/June WASSCE. Uwadiae described the action of the schools as another form of examination malpractice that would be dealt with. The Registrar, however, disclosed that WAEC has developed software for schools to send the continuous assessment scores of their students on annual basis, which would be stored in the data base of the council. WAEC withholds 14,756 Aug/Oct results

KATSINA—The West African Examinations Council, WAEC, yesterday, released the 2017 August/ October WASSCE results for private candidates, saying those of 14,756 candidates, representing 11.07 percent, were being withheld due to examination malpractice. WASSEC candidate WAEC Head of National Office, Nigeria, Mr. Olu Adenipekun, stated this while announcing the release of the results in a briefing in Katsina. Adenipekun said 34,664 candidates, representing 26.01 percent obtained minimum of five credits in five subjects and above, including English Language and Mathematics. The result showed candidates’ low performance of about 12.49 percent, when compared to the 2016 results put at 38.50 percent. Adenipekun was quick to say the examination body has not carried out a scientific investigation on what could have happened in terms of the candidates’ performances. FG Approves works of Six New Private Universities

The Federal Government has approved the establishment of six new private universities in the country. This was part of the decision taken during a meeting of the Federal Executive Council held on Wednesday in Abuja. The new private universities will be established in Abia, Delta, Rivers, Oyo and Lagos. The newly-approved private universities are Admiralty University, Ibusa, Delta State; Spiritan University, Nneochi, Abia; Precious Cornerstone University, Ibadan; Pamo University of Medical Sciences, Port Harcourt; Atiba University, Oyo State; and Eko University of Medical and Health Sciences, Lagos.
